Make a template for a braided heart using a piece of cardboard. Draw a dome shape and divide the straight edge into three equal pieces with two lines up to where the curve begins. Cut up to the lines.
Trace the template on the back of a folded piece of shiny paper. You will need two folded domes for one heart.
Draw ears, antlers or a hat at the curve.
Cut out the design and make a cut along the lines.
Braid two domes together to make a basket.
Cut out a narrow strip of shiny paper and glue it to the inside of the heart as a hanger.
Cut out decorations like carrots, whiskers and holly from shiny paper or hobby card.
Glue on your cut-out decorations, eyes and pompoms.
Making classic Christmas decorations is always fun, but it can also be exciting to add a unique twist. With some Christmas crafting, you and the children can transform traditional braided hearts into adorable snowmen, reindeer and Christmas mice.
