Using a ruler and a drinking glass, for example, make a template of a large, mechanical key on an ordinary piece of drawing paper. Cut or carve out two identical keys from a piece of gold-coloured card. Glue the pieces together, forming a key that is gold on both sides.
Cut out a 4.5 x 13 cm rectangle from heavy cardboard. Glue gold card to both sides of the rectangle. Cut a notch down the centre of the rectangle and glue the key into the notch.
Make a hole in each corner of the rectangle and thread through two rubber bands, so that the key can be worn like a backpack.
Wrap a headband with tulle. Fold the tulle a few times first, to create a thicker layer. Glue the ends.
Fold a piece of tulle into several layers. Hold the middle together, and tie a narrower strip of tulle around it, forming a big bow. Glue the bow slightly off to one side of the headband.
Paint adorable doll makeup, with rosy cheeks and a little mouth.
Use a tattoo pen to draw cracks on the forehead, as if the porcelain had cracked.
Finish the costume with a doll-like dress.
Make a sweet-yet-scary doll costume for Halloween! A wind-up key on the back and a big bow complete the transformation into an old-fashioned mechanical doll. Top off the look with rosy cheeks, and cracks in the porcelain on the child's forehead. This wind-up Halloween doll is sure to be shockingly adorable at the Halloween party or while trick-or-treating!
