Cut one hundred 120-cm-long pieces of thick cotton string.
Tie all of the strings to a stick using a lark-s head knot: Fold the string in half and place it under the stick. Run the string ends through the loop and pull to secure into a knot.
Soak the strings in water.
Mix the fabric dye, following the instructions on the package: one bowl of turquoise dye and one bowl of navy blue dye.
Dip all strings in the turquoise dye.
Hang up the stick so that you can dip the ends into the navy blue dye. Let them hang down into the dye bath for a few hours to let the yarn absorb the dye and to create a colour that shifts into turquoise. Once your wall hanging is the desired colour, remove the yarn from the dye and rinse thoroughly with water. Let dry.
Trim the ends, creating a nice zigzag pattern, and hang the wall hanging with a piece of string.
Make a beautiful and unique wall tapestry with yarn and fabric dye! The technique is called dip-dyeing, and involves dipping yarn in dye. You will also need a nice, sturdy stick. So start by taking a lovely walk in the woods or park and look for a stick on the ground that is just waiting to decorate your wall. Then start cutting and dyeing yarn – it’s super simple and really fun!
