Make a concrete Advent candle holder

How to instructions

  • 1

Clean and dry a large square plastic container that you can repurpose as a mould.

  • 2

Attach a thin strip of double-sided tape along the top edge of the candle cases. Then attach the candle cases inside of the plastic box with the opening facing down towards the bottom of the box. Make sure the tape is nice and stuck along the entire edge, so that the candle cases are tightly sealed against the bottom.

  • 3

Coat the walls of the inside of the box with a thin layer of cooking oil. You do not need to apply oil to the bottom of the box.

  • 4

Make sure that your clothes, skin and work surface are protected. Wear protective gloves and a protective respiratory mask when working with concrete.

  • 5

Pour 4 kg of concrete into a bucket. Add 6.2 dl water and mix according to the instructions on the package.

  • 6

Pour the concrete into the box with the candle cases. Let harden.

  • 7

Remove the mould and the tape once the concrete has hardened. If you like, sand the underside of the concrete with sandpaper, so that the candle holder has an even surface upon which to stand.

  • 8

Paint the top with a thin layer of slate-grey concrete paint if you want a slightly more matte look on the top.

Make a beautiful concrete candle holder that you can enjoy Christmas after Christmas! The raw look of concrete is so beautiful paired with lit Advent candles. If you like, you can also decorate your candle holder with adorable little animals and figures.

Remember to blow out candles when you leave the room.
