How to instructions

  • 1

You can use the Panduro box in which you received your craft order, or any box you have at home.

  • 2

Place a plate on the cardboard and trace around it with a pencil.

  • 3

Cut out the circle. (Our circle was 29 cm in diameter.)

  • 4

Cut 1 cm deep notches around the edge of the circle. You will need an odd number of notches (for example, ours has 17 notches). Try to evenly distribute the notches around the circle.

  • 5

Set up cotton yarn as warp thread across the circle, between the notches. On the back, pull the cotton yarn into the next notch over, and on the front, stretch it across the circle again. Keep going until you have yarn in every notch. Securely tie the yarn on the back.

  • 6

Cut a piece of acrylic yarn in a beautiful colour for your weaving. Thread a big tapestry needle with the yarn.

  • 7

Begin weaving from the inner centre and around the circle with the yarn. Weave up and down every other time between the taut cotton yarn.

  • 8

Change colours and keep weaving around the circle until you are satisfied with the result.

  • 9

Loosen the warp yarn from the circle when you are finished. Cut the yarn apart and secure with double knots.

Weaving is incredibly fun and with a piece of cardboard, you can make your own circular loom. Instead of throwing away boxes you already have at home, use them to get creative. Just remember to use sturdy cardboard – we cut pieces from a Panduro box. Set up the warp thread, and then start weaving everything from coasters to dreamcatchers in your favourite colours.
