Choose fabric in different colours and patterns that you like.
Cut rectangles out of the fabrics.
Place two fabric pieces right side facing right side. Using a sewing machine, sew the fabric pieces together with a straight seam along the edge of one long side.
Fold up the fabric and press the seams with an iron before you sew on the next piece of fabric.
Place each new piece of fabric with the pattern facing down, and sew together right side facing right side. Press with an iron before you sew on the next piece of fabric.
Continue sewing fabric pieces this way until your patchwork quilt is the desired size.
Sew a slightly bigger back side for the patchwork quilt.
Place the front piece and the back piece together with fibre batting in between. Fold the back piece up over the front piece as an edge around the entire quilt, and fold in a little bit as a seam allowance to make a clean edge.
Patchwork is so much fun! It’s a handicraft that is both soothing and satisfying as it grows, piece by piece, with patches in different patterns and sizes arranged together into a beautiful whole. If you have remnants left over from other projects, a patchwork project is the perfect way to make use of them.
