Revitalise worn-out furniture or flea market finds and add your own personal touch to old tables, chairs or chests. METHOD: Start by scraping away old, loose paint if needed. Wash with paint surface cleaner. Spackle any holes again. Sand the furniture to help the paint adhere better, first with thick sandpaper and then with fine sandpaper. (150). Remember to sand in the same direction as the wood grain. Stir the paint. Apply a thin layer of paint and let dry for 1-2 hours. If you like, sand gently with fine sandpaper. Apply a new layer of paint. If you like, you can apply a contrasting shade of paint to certain details. To give the furniture an especially run-down appearance, dip a scraggly brush or sponge in a little paint (in a contrasting colour) and dot/paint strokes on raised areas, edges, borders or the like. You can even sand with sandpaper in certain spots to further enhance the worn-down appearance in a lovely way.
