Apply watercolour paint to a piece of watercolour paper.
Sprinkle coarse salt on the wet paint. If you like, you can let the paint dry a little first. The more the paint dries, the subtler the effect will be.
Leave the salt in place until the paint is dry.
Shake off the salt granules and check out the awesome patterns that appear.
Try watercolour painting with salt! By applying watercolour paint first, and then sprinkling it with salt, you can create gorgeous crystal patterns and incredible effects. The salt absorbs the paint and leaves dots and speckles behind where the granules had been. The salt technique is wonderful for making abstract paintings, backgrounds, and adding details to nature motifs. For example, you can use this technique to create sparkling frost, a starry sky, a glittering sea or perhaps a gentle summer rain. Try it out and see what kinds of effects you can create using a lot or just a little coarse or fine salt!
